About Us
Holders Woods and Brockley Grove are the responsibility of Birmingham City Council. The woods are listed as ‘Ancient Replanted Woodland’ and are a national ‘Site of Importance for Nature Conservation’ (SINC). Brockley Grove is part of the River Rea ‘Site of Local Importance for Nature Conservation’ (SLINC), an important corridor for wildlife.
The Council Rangers advise Holders Woods Conservation on their work to maintain and enhance the area. We are supported by Birmingham Open Spaces Forum and the National Lottery.

What we do
We usually meet on the first Sunday of each month from 2-4pm and work on tasks such as keeping the paths clear and the brambles at bay. We coppice a number of willow and hazel trees, maintain a living willow arch and, after storms, remove branches blocking the paths. When we won’t disturb the tadpoles and pond creatures we clear the ponds and when the river is low enough to get in we try to clear the Himalayan Balsam to stop it spreading. There is, sadly, always litter to clear.
